I don’t get very excited over Thai fish cakes.
It’s strange. They’re fried, they taste good, they’re normally well-executed…I just don’t know what it is.
Perhaps it’s the texture. They’re leathery rather than crispy, like an over-cooked omelette.
Or maybe it’s the look. Their wrinkled, saggy appearance doesn’t exactly shout “I’m fresh and delicious!”.
The little dipping sauce was insanely hot, but definitely livened things up. I imagine you’d get something much milder in the UK.
Staring at the photo I quite fancy a few now, but in an “I’m generally hungry and would eat most things” kind of way. I think the best word to describe my feelings towards them is “ambivalent”.
