Getting Up to Date

I’m painfully conscious that I’ve not posted for a while.

Don’t imagine for a minute I’ve been nowhere worth writing about. I’ve just been incredibly bad at remembering to take photos, distracted by the fun and games of Christmas and also been buying a house.

I shall compensate with a whistle-stop tour of some of the highlights.

Meat, Glasgow

Ribs, brisket and pulled pork have been springing up as guest stars or as the foundation stones of entire restaurants on a regular basis over the last few years.

For a long time, H and I would slake our desire for American-style meats at Bodean’s in Soho. We’d snack on a pulled pork sandwich with some fries in the casual seating upstairs, and wish we were on a Texas road trip.

These days even Wetherspoon’s sells pulled pork. However there are lots of specialist places to choose from, and on a recent trip to Glasgow we tried a couple.

Travancore, West Byfleet

On my unceasing quest for thrilling food in the area, a month or so ago I came across a Keralan restaurant in West Byfleet. It was currently in the process of re-branding, but was due to open again soon as Travancore (15 Old Woking Road).

I kept an eye on their progress, and recently noticed they were offering a special vegetarian feast to celebrate the Hindu festival of Onam. I excitedly booked H and I in, but at the last minute he was unable to attend.

As it was short notice, I didn’t try to find someone else but instead I decided to go solo.
