Every now and again I like to daydream about having my own little cake shop. I’d mostly just be baking. And eating. And I probably wouldn’t have any customers, but I’d have an array of cakes to choose from.
If my fantasy ever became reality, I wouldn’t want it to be all that different from the Daisy Cupcake Cafe (15 High Street, Ayr).
I’ve mentioned this café before, in the tour of Ayr I put together last year. There’s so much to like about it beyond the awesome cakes.
For a start, you’re free to borrow any of the books of the shelves and take them home to read. Then there are the tiny forks, dainty china, cupcake-themed decor and the incredibly nice owner.
But it all comes back to the cakes. For me, they are the best I’ve bought. The icing to cake ratio is perfect, the cake is always moist and neither too light nor too heavy. The icing (which I believe has cream cheese in) is never too sweet or greasy, and always works beautifully with the cake beneath.
Every day there are 4 different flavours to choose from, which get posted on their Facebook site. The one pictured above is lemon cheesecake, but every flavour I’ve had has been great (I have a weakness for anything with chocolate in, and can particularly recommend those).
Please go. Go for me, because I now live over 400 miles away.
Thank you so much for such a beautifully written review of my shop, it is just a shame you have moved away. If you are ever back up this way I hope you will pop back in.
I’ll definitely be back again the next time I’m in the area. On my recent trip to Ayr I managed twice in one week, so I’ll have to see if I can top that!
