There is a branch of Thai desserts that I’m not totally on board with.
It is a group which I think of as “things floating in coconut milk”. The things are many and varied: pumpkin, beans, fruit… they can all be found served in warm, cold or iced sweetened coconut milk.
This particular dessert contains pieces of water chestnut, some coloured, some plain. I can’t put my finger on my precise objection. I like coconut, I don’t mind small crunchy things, I quite like fakely pink things, but I’m just not that enamoured. I guess that leaves more for everyone else at least.
